Ordinal logistic regression was used to assess associations of socio-demographic factors and neighbourhood social cohesion with distances adults would permit for children’s independent travel and outdoor play. Results: Parents and adults with lower education were less likely to permit greater distances for children’s independent travel (OR = 0.57 and OR = 0.59, respectively). Women, parents and adults with lower education were less likely to grant children greater distances for independent outdoor play (OR = 0.61, OR = 0.50 and OR = 0.60, respectively). In contrast, adults with higher perceptions of neighbourhood social cohesion were more likely to permit children greater distances for independent travel (OR = 1.05)and outdoor play (OR = 1.05). Adult age and area-level socio-economic disadvantage were not associated with distances adults would permit for independent travel and outdoor play. Conclusions: Women, parents (particularly those of younger children), adults with lower education and those who perceived neighbourhood social cohesion as being lower were less willing to let children independently travel further away from home. Interventions to increase children’s independent mobility may be more effective if targeted to these groups. Future training for clinical educators should be tailored to participants’ level of experience and focus on the components of CE in which they feel least confident. CPD relating to CE may help prepare physiotherapists for the clinical educator role. What does this paper add?: There is a lack of information regarding physiotherapists’ involvement in CE, completion of CE-related CPD or perceived levels of confidence in various aspects of the clinical educator role, such as placement organisation, teaching, assessment and the provision of feedback. This study describes the involvement of physiotherapists in CE in Australia, including their demographic and professional characteristics, participation in CE-related CPD and confidence in various components of CE. What are the implications for practitioners?: Several recommendations regarding future CE-related CPD have resulted from this study, including tailoring CPD to the needs of physiotherapists based on their level of clinical or CE experience, focusing CPD on the aspects of CE in which physiotherapists feel least confident and raising the awareness of and improving accessibility to CPD opportunities in this area.]]> Thu 18 Aug 2022 14:49:36 AEST ]]> Oncologist provision of smoking cessation support: A national survey of Australian medical and radiation oncologists https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:43332 Thu 15 Sep 2022 14:57:43 AEST ]]> A survey of American physical therapists' current practice of dry needling: Practice patterns and adverse events https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44444 2 = 8.197, P = 0.004), experienced (>4 years; X2 = 34.635, P < 0.001), and having more training (>61 h; X2 = 8.503, P = 0.004) were associated with reporting a major adverse event occurred during their career. The results showed that hydrothermal carbonization influences the physicochemical properties of the biosolids, such as promoting pore structure and trace elements below the threshold values for use in agriculture. The spectroscopic techniques demonstrated higher presence of oxygen-containing functional groups (e.g., C-O/O-H) on surfaces of Sewchar than that of biosolids. The Sewchar doses of 10 Mg ha-1 and 60 Mg ha-1 yielded the highest dry biomass for beans and rice respectively. Increasing Sewchar doses negatively correlated with radish dry biomass, as indicated by linear regression equation fitting (p < 0.05). Thus, biomass responses to Sewchar application into the soil varied with Sewchar dose and type of plant. For a proper environmental management, a survey was conducted to assess farmers' perception and acceptance of Sewchar as a soil amendment. The survey revealed that younger farmers who had higher education qualifications were more prone to use Sewchar as soil amendment. Additionally, farmers who would not use Sewchar as soil amendment attributed the highest level of importance to economic criteria, such as fertilizer and freight prices. In the future, studies on a longer term under field conditions should be performed to elucidate the interactions between Sewchar and soil properties on plant growth and to ensure the safe use of Sewchar as a soil amendment.]]> Mon 19 Aug 2019 10:05:27 AEST ]]> Preferred type, timing and format of dementia information: A cross-sectional survey of carers of people living with dementia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55061 Mon 08 Apr 2024 12:31:44 AEST ]]> Nutrition education in the Australian New South Wales primary school curriculum: an exploration of time allocation, translation and attitudes in a sample of teachers https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34854 Mon 03 Feb 2020 10:56:07 AEDT ]]> Ethical and legal aspects of research involving older people with cognitive impairment: a survey of dementia researchers in Australia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38688 n = 70). Researchers reported variable practices in assessing prospective participants' capacity to consent to their studies. Various tools are used for this purpose, ranging from tools designed for research (eg, MacArthur Competence Assessment Tool for Clinical Research) to more general cognitive function screens (eg, Mini Mental State Exam). Few respondents (14%) routinely exclude people from studies who are unable to give their own consent, but instead seek permission from proxy decision-makers, such as legally appointed guardians or family carers. Respondents reported positive and negative outcomes of ethics review processes. Positive outcomes included strengthening the protections for participants with cognitive impairment while negative outcomes included delays and inconsistent decisions from different ethics committees. The findings suggest a need for improved strategies in the research context to assess and enhance the decision-making capacity of people with dementia to support appropriate opportunities for inclusion. Education for ethics committees, proxy decision-makers and other gatekeepers is also needed to reduce barriers to participation in research.]]> Fri 22 Apr 2022 15:34:36 AEST ]]> Liking of salt is associated with depression, anxiety, and stress https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53847 Fri 19 Jan 2024 10:18:49 AEDT ]]> Time for a paradigm shift in shared decision-making in trauma and emergency surgery? Respondents indicated concern about directives not being available when needed (71%) and that ethics committees would not accept ARDs (60%). Few respondents had used ARDs, but a majority (from 57-80%) would be willing to offer ARDs for a range of research activities, such as observing behaviour and taking measures, blood samples or scans. Nearly all respondents (92%) agreed that current dissent should override prior wishes stated in an ARD. The survey findings are contextualised with attention to ethics guidelines, laws and practices to support advance research planning.]]> Fri 10 Sep 2021 15:53:32 AEST ]]>
